HPV or Human Papilloma Virus is the main cause of Cervical Cancer. And the HPV Vaccine provides protection against it. The vaccine is recommended in girls 9-14 years of age. If missed in that age range, it can be given till 26 years of age preferably before the onset on sexual activity. The vaccine is given as 2 doses 2 months apart In kids below 15 years and as 3 doses in older kids.
Cancer is caused due to abnormal cell growth. The signals for this is carriend on genes. So it is genetic. Weather that information is familial or not is the question. 90% cancers are sporadic, meaning they can affect anyone in random, and are not familial or hereditary. Very few cancers carry the hereditary risk on specific genes. Genetic couseling for cancer invloves detailed history about various cancers in family, zeroing on possibility of familial genetic risk, and checking for presence of abnormal gene in participants. Again, carrying abnormal gene does not mean a person will get cancer. it just means an increased risk compared to someone with the gene.
